Because it's Friday, and who doesn't love Tina Fey?
A Mothers Prayer for Her Daughter
“First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.
May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.
When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.
Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.
Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.
May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.
Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.
O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.
And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.
And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Happy weekend!
Is anyone else as obsessed with these photographs by Ashley Woodson Bailey as I am? At first I wasn't so sure because I don't typically decorate with black, but now I'm thinking they might be perfect contrast to my all white house.
I'm dying to put a large one above my bed. If only I didn't have a million other things to buy right now.....
Obviously my head has been spinning over the nursery from the time I found out I was pregnant. While I haven't started working on it, here is where my head is at:
FIRST OFF- This wallpaper is killing me. I've fallen in love with it and can only find where to buy it in the UK. Anyone know where I can find Swan Lakes by Nina Campbell in the US???? I am thinking of just doing one wall and either leaving the other walls white or painting them a very subtle, almost white pink.
The crib is another pain. Is it weird that I am totally not into them? I just want something super simple. I am actually debating just going the Ikea route since I don't want anything fancy, can't justify spending a lot of money on something I don't love, and they have pretty good reviews around the blog world.
I will not be spending $2k on a vintage dresser from Shabby, but I have been looking for something similar to paint myself.
Same goes for this rocker. Not going to spend a ton, it just has to be white slipcovered.
I have fallen in love with this Etsy shop, and am going to commission a custom watercolor of all of my animals. Something similar to the one above except it will be of Lola, Molly, and Love! I'll probably find a way to mix in a bunch of different animals as well throughout the nursery.
There you have it. For now my main goal is to find a way to get my hands on this wallpaper! Otherwise I may have a completely different inspiration board next week!
With the new baby coming in March I have a whole list of things I want to get done around the house BEFORE even starting on the nursery. The master bedroom always seems to be the last place on peoples lists. In my last house it never even got done. Once the baby is here I know we really won't have time for it, so it kind of feels like now or never. I have gotten a few new pieces, (night stands, settee) that I have yet to show you, but the big ta-da about this space is going to be the paint. YES. I am going to add a little bit of color to the casa. To be honest I'm a bit worried I will be over it before it even dries, which is probably why I haven't done it yet.
I am leaning toward Blushing Bride by Dunn Edwards. I want something pink, but not baby pink. My only worry is that I will feel like it is too dark, as I'm used to very light and bright.
We are having a girl! Although I would have been happy and excited either way to find out what our first baby was going to be, I have always dreamt of having a little girl of my own. I am literally over whelmed with excitement and happiness I don't even know where to begin. I always thought I'd run out to start shopping and designing as soon as I got the word- but I've found myself unable to focus on one thing. I'm literally paralyzed by my choices. Wallpaper or paint? Floral or modern? Boho or girlie? So for now I'll just enjoy the moment, and get to everything else once my head clears bit.
I've been looking for a way to incorporate a fun tapestry into my home. I love how unique they are, and a fretting change from my go to gallery wall. In my plan for the nursery, (boy or girl) I think I def want to find a way to work one in. Perusing around easy I found this shop (Habitstudio) and I'm kind of crazy for them. This pink one especially caught my eye. Wouldn't it be adorable in a little girls nursery?
This fun colorful one would be great in any nursery.
I did get to thinking how special it would be if I could make one myself for baby- and what do you know, Design Love Fest is holding a workshop in downtown. I'm not sure if I'll really find the time or energy, so I may end up just purchasing one from Etsy.
What do you think of tapestry wall art? Have you jumped on this trend?
Not knowing the gender of our new baby has my mind spinning. I'm obsessing over nursery decor and fashion with no particular direction. One second I'm day dreaming about pretty floral wallpaper, the next I'm thinking about the most cost effective way to dress a stylish boy. Luckily I find out if it's a boy or girl very soon! With that being said, today my mind is on this gorgeous nursery.
That wallpaper and bright moldings are just doing it for me. So stinkin cute. Being baby crazy right now, I have two new boards on Pinterest for nursery inspiration and baby fashion. Be sure to check them out!
Those of you who follow me via Instagram already know the big news, but for those of you who don't-- We are having a baby!! Baby Theodossis is due mid march and we are so excited!
Although I hate making excuses for my lack of blogging, I've had a rough past few months. Placenta Previa and a Subchorionic Hemmorage have had me on and off bed rest for the past two months, but I am happy to say it's looking like things are getting better. As I am getting back to my regular day to day activities you can bet that blogging will be one of them. With so many things to get done around the house before baby comes I'm looking forward to sharing lots of fun projects with you!
I finally went for it. I now have a pretty legit gallery wall surrounding my TV, made up of all the street art my husband and I have collected on our travels over the years. It def makes a statement, but given that the rest of my house is pretty white and uncluttered I think it works.
My favorite thing about my new wall? There is still plenty of space to add as we go! Up next? Puerto Rico and NYC in August!
It was just normal day as I was perusing Pinterest when I spotted a pin I fell in love with. With the click of the mouse I was directed to Oh My Darlings blog where I was captivated my all the photos of her pretty house. It is basically right up my alley and everything feminine, sparkly and bright that I love. I mean the girls even got a few disco balls hanging around for fun. Loves it.
Last week I showed you how I moved my rustic table from my office into the dining and I like it so much better. Doing so left me deskless in the office, so it was back to the drawing board for that room. Luckily my mom was able to give me my old desk from when I lived at home and I have to say I like the office so much better now!
Being that this desk is so much smaller I was able to push it against the wall and bring in some other pieces of furniture. I now have a quaint seating area and a work area all in one little space.
I still have some decorating to finish up in this room, (a chandelier, some more wall art, etc) but for now I'm really enjoying the space! Sometimes a little rearranging is all you need!
