So I have been super inspired by design that incorporates forts in the home. I'd had them on the mind for a while now, and when I saw this DIY last week I knew it had to be done. While I don't have a child to make one for, and as much as I'd love a huge one for myself, I just don't have that kind of space. LOLA however, totes needs one. I decided. This was seriously one of the cheapest, and most successful DIYs yet.
What you need:
A large piece of fabric
(4) 3ft sticks. (Home depot had them for around $1.50 each.)
Elastic
Scissors
Ribbon
Pillows (optional)
I had these handmade linens sitting in a cabinet for years. They were from my husbands aunt when we went to Greece. They were just waiting for a special project.
I simple stitched them together to create one large piece of fabric. Now we are ready to begin!
STEP ONE:
Tie all four sticks together with elastic about 3 inches from the top.
STEP TWO:
Spread sticks apart with one on each side of the pillow.
STEP THREE:
Set fabric on top of sticks. Play with it until you are happy with they way it sits.
STEP FOUR:
Tie pieces of ribbon through wholes in fabric around the top and front poles to hold it in place.I purposely arranged my linens before sewing to flap in front. This way I could close the fort.
Or tie it open with some ribbon.

This is how the fort looks when closed. Super easy to pack away when I don't want it in use.
How do you feel about incorporating a fort into your decor? Just for kids, or do you want in on the fun?
